Hi Darling,
When I first started my business, there were weeks when I would completely freeze. I was so overwhelmed by the ideal of building my dream business that I was at a standstill. There was plenty on my to-do list but I couldn't get myself to move.
Has that ever happened to you, Darling?
Here's a play-by-play of what would occur...
I'd avoid the difficult tasks like the plague, do the least amount of work possible, throw on my favorite oversized college tee and couch potato it with Netflix and a large Papa John's pizza.
Eventually, I'd have to face my fears and would usually find that I could accomplish the tasks that seemed so difficult (they were easier than I thought)!
The truth is, we typically know the steps we need to take in order to move forward, but when fear kicks in, it can get the best of us causing us to freeze (you might fight or flight!).
It's easy to become immobile, stay in my jammies, lay in bed, and watch Gilmore girls all day. But no one ever became successful by avoiding their big dreams.
At this point in my business, I'm no longer available to waste time "frozen." Here's what I do to get over my fear...
1. MAKE A PLAN
Plans give you direction and help you set tangible goals. This helps me know what needs to be done and set deadlines for each task. The times I haven't made a plan, everything falls apart and my big ideas don't come into fruition.
Don't forget to leave room for inspired action!
2. BE BRAVE
Act not out of will but bravery. During a group program I was part of, a colleague of mine shared that whenever her mom wanted her to do something that she didn't want to do, she'd say "JFDI" which means "Just F-Ing Do It." I'm not one to swear but this phrase has helped me when I frozen.
Even if I have a plan, my mind can still keep me in a place of fear. In those moments, it's almost like an out of body experience, I just have to do what I need to do to keep moving forward.
Nothing inside me wants to take action but I get brave and remember to JFDI!
3. GET SUPPORT
Surround yourself with people who will cheer you on and keep you accountable. Running a business isn't easy and I'm thankful for my coach, colleagues, and friends who have been there every step of the way! They make a world of a difference during these scary moments.
From my experience, they have even helped me enhance my business ideas which gets me excited and pushes me into action!
