How To Eliminate The Noise In Your Life

Dear Darling,

It's been three weeks since I got home from my two month excision in Miami!

Living away from home for two months clarified something for me – I don't need a bunch of stuff.

In Miami, my closet was perfectly filled with all the essentials I needed and my little office area had a few books and note books that sufficed.

The more I travel the more I realize that less is more.

I loved the ease of going into my closet and having just a few items of clothing to pick from. Less options meant less stress trying to figure out what to wear.

I wanted to take that ease and freedom back home so I purged all the extra bits around our house that were unnecessary.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not an extreme minimalist (I don't think I could be!) but I do desire to eliminate the noise my environment can create.

Before Miami, I wanted to pack up our house into boxes and move into a bigger place. I didn't love our home because it was cluttered with stuff that needed to be thrown away (which would make more room) or things that needed to be stored away (but there wasn't any room).

As soon as I got home, I made a game plan. My office would be the first place I attacked because I'd left it a mess right before heading off to Miami. Next, was clearing out my closet of all the items that didn't light me up. Plus, I had new clothes from Miami to add into my closet.

From there I attacked the rest of the rooms in my house.

It's been process. I'm still working on a few rooms but I'm getting there!

I've fallen in love with our beautiful flat all over again! I don't know about you but I work better when I have a clean and tidy environment.

I also made it a point to reconnect with good friends as soon as I was back. They help me eliminate the noise that loneliness creates in my mind (I'm all about strengthening your mindset). Plus, I missed them terribly!

So, what needs to go?

Here are a few areas you can start to tackle right away.

Your House

  • Clear and clean your pantry!
  • Purge your closet. Only keep items that make you feel like a million bucks!
  • Get rid of clutter in your bedroom. Clear books and magazines, throw away tissues or scraps of paper laying around on your bedside.
  • Donate toys or clothes your kids have grown out of.

  • Reconnecting with your partner or spouse

Your Time

  • Block out time to self care and things that matter to you
  • Block out time to check emails and social media so they don't interrupt you through out the day.

P.S. Happy International Women's Day! You are fierce, strong, brave, and capable of so much more than you know.

P.P.S Did you know that eliminating the noise in your life is actually a revenue building activity? Check out this story my coach Sarah King shared about her client…

"Back when I was taking on private coaching clients, I remember having an incredible conversation with a new mom who was feeling totally overwhelmed by the chaos of motherhood + entrepreneurship. She told me how her home was just a wreck and she felt like a complete failure. I remember asking her, "How would it feel to sort through your closet and purge everything you no longer wear?" She was taken aback, and said, "Gosh! I can't even imagine! It would feel so great! But if I get a moment when the baby is asleep I need to be working on my business!!" I stopped her. "You've been working on your business and you're not getting anywhere. It's time to try something different. I seriously believe the clutter in your life is blocking you from receiving clients. I know this sounds crazy, but what if you dedicated this weekend to decluttering your home? I can guarantee you that this IS a revenue-producing activity." She hesitated, but I had earned her trust so she committed. Within a week of purging her home, she booked her first $5,000 worth of clients. WHAT!!!??!"

Before she purged her home, it was very difficult for her to convince others to invest in her, because she did not feel like a success."
